The multinational Panavia Tornado remains today one of the most important and capable aircraft in the NATO arsenal. Conceived in Europe by the United Kingdom, West Germany and Italy it first flew in 1974 but is still in use today with the countries that brought it to life, primarily in conventional long range interdiction and overland attack roles. Secondary specialised roles include Maritime Attack, reconnaissance and defence suppression variants, and a series of technological upgrades have ensured that the Tornado has stayed ahead of the competition and remains even today a very serious attack and interdiction aircraft.
Iris have recently released their virtual version of this legend so that pilots and enthusiasts alike may finally have their go at flying her. The download is quite large at 71 Megabytes but it is an early indication that there is real substance in this package. The installer is sober and functional, and it does not take long to get the aircraft installed and ready for use. Once the sim is loaded up and in the selection menu it is obvious why the download is so large; Iris have included an abundance of load out variants and paint schemes to ensure that the virtual pilot will not become bored of their creation anytime soon. For those of us who enjoy tinkering with the simulator traffic, Iris have even been generous enough to include an AI model.
After loading up the sim, you will be delighted with the exterior model. From having been at plenty of Airshows around Europe, I have seen the Tornado many times in real life and I can safely assure you that Iris have captured the look and dimensions perfectly.
I bought this product as soon as it got released as I had heard it was very good. And what I heard was very true. The sound set is awesome, the VC and Panel are excellent. The new features that have been built in like the auto wing sweep are great (but not on the real aircraft) and the aircraft handles like a dream.I am well happy with this product.
--> Very nice modelling and texturing
--> Clear and functional panels
--> Plenty of models, variants and paint schemes included
--> Neat little touches such as the cockpit ladder and refuel boom
--> Loyal flight dynamics and performance
--> Functional and nicely finished virtual cockpit
--> Small size and readability of the gauges on the panels
--> Panels and systems may not appeal to hardcore simmers and enthusiasts
