Addon Type: Scenery Enhancement/ "Action Addon"
Overview: FSADDON has once again raised the bar in scenery design. FSADDON first became well known when they released Rich Goldstien's 'Orcas Island' (mentioned later in this review). FSADDON is big on dynamic scenery, and until FSCargo came out, the only way you could in any way interact with scenery is to see it move. So you see mechanics walking to and fro in the hangar, dogs playing with their owners, and the fuel tennant taking a break from his paper while getting a good stretch for the ol' knees.
But actually interacting with the scenery? That's unheard of! Everybody knows that you can't do that...right?
FSCargo let's you fly cargo missions like you've never done before in the sim. Now, you can fly to an airport, "load" the cargo into your aircraft, feel the weight difference, and then land at another airport and unload the cargo. You can do it all with relative ease, and it doesn't take a nuclear physicist to figure out how to do it.
Installation: Once you buy the product using SimMarket It's an auto-installer with a simple registation key sent to you in an email. Once you run the installer you fire up the sim and you're ready to go. There's also a great manual for added reading.
Basic Use: There are hundreds of airports, mainly in the Oregon/Washington area, that already have the "Cargo Area" placed. This "Cargo Area" allows you to go to or from that airport. You can add as many areas you want to anywhere you want to fly using the Editor, but we'll go into that later. Let's fly!
I'm going to start at Darrington Municipal Airport (1S2). This is one of my favorites in the Washington area, and it already has a cargo area placed! I'm going to fly my DC-3 for this flight. You can fly everything from helicopters to small twins to realistically use this addon. It wasn't intended to load up a 747-400F with thousands of pounds of pallets, but rather fly a couple of boxes up to a remote fishing camp.
I am now going to go to my Vistamare Menu and select a new mission. This is how I will start every FSCargo mission.
Now I can choose how long I want my mission to be, and I can hit the generate button as many times as I please to find exactly the mission I want to do.
Ah! Mixed items from Darrington to Orcas Island! Perfect! FSCargo automatically knows how much my aircraft can hold, and will give me jobs that suite my aircraft
Once I accept the mission my Cargo Area pops up. It consists of a square of 4 cones showing the boundries, a tralier, some lights with generators, and the cargo itself...see it?
Now, I've got a schedule to keep, so let's get the cargo loaded up and get out of here
POOF! It's in my plane. It even adds weight to the aircraft. You really notice it when using it with helicopters!
Once in the air I can keep up on my time by hitting CTRL+ALT+C. Says here I have 34 mins. The better the time, the better the score!
After I land and taxi to the Cargo Area, I press the according funtion buttons and I unload the cargo. I'm done and the cargo is back on the ground!
Using the Editor: Now what if you add your own Cargo Area's? It's just as easy as flying the missions! Just start up the editor, use some keystrokes (read the manual), and save the area, it's that simple, and it takes about 3 minutes to do.
You can even add water docks and peirs, and fly your missions from there. The program is so smart it even knows if you're flying an aircraft equipped with floats. If you aren't, then it will automatically not choose a floatplane base for you.
Now, You can finally fly cargo missions realistically. There is word that FSADDON is planning on making the pacakge more friendly for the bigger jets, and they will constantly be adding more things to haul around the world!
EXTREMLEY easy to use
Not resricted to one area
Not very realistic with larger cargo planes
You can't get rid of the tall lights (makes it hard for helicopter pilots)
You can't choose where the cargo will be located (It seems to always be in the corner between the lights)
Overall I give this aircraft 4 GREEN STARS! With only minor dislikes, and FSADDON saying they will continue to develop the product, it makes this addon a must have for bush and helicotper pilots. This type of addon has never been accomplished to the level of detail and realism that FSCargo has.
